Split second chronograph
Split second chronograph
It is one of the complicated mechanisms that control time with two hands that play different roles. In addition to the usual time display, it is a mechanism equipped with a stopwatch function that can measure any time and a function that can measure intermediate times (lap times). Before measurement, the chronograph second hand and split second hand stop overlapping at the 12 o'clock position, and when the stopwatch function is activated, the two hands move simultaneously while overlapping. When the push button dedicated to the split second hand is pressed, only the split second hand stops at that moment, and the lap time can be read. When the push button is pressed again, it instantly catches up with the advancing chronograph second hand and is ready to measure the next lap time. To realize such measurement of elapsed time in the narrow space of a mechanical wristwatch requires high technical skills in both precision and design. Especially in today's digital age, the incorporation of a mechanical memory device is a gift of the wisdom and passion of a genius watchmaker.
